'Villain' is directed by Mani Ratnam. And he has come up with a good thought but then he was unable to conceive it
perfectly on the screen though the presentation was excellent.
Story:
Villain (Telugu version of Raavanan) is not a story, it is a world. Dev (Prithvi Raj) falls in love with Ragini (Rai), a spunky
classical dancer who is as unconventional as him. They get married and he takes up his new post in a small town in
southern India. A town where the word of law is not the police but Veeraya (Vikram), a tribal who has, over the years, shifted
the power equation of the place from the ruling to the have nots of the area. Dev knows that the key to bringing order to any
place is to vanquish the big fish, in this case Veera. In one stroke Dev manages to rip open Veera's word, and set in motion
a chain of events which will claim lives, change fortune. What happens hereafter is to be seen on the screen.
Performance:
Vikram does a good job as the villain and he looks handsome and evil enough, this is an impressive act from him. Prithviraj
puts in good efforts and it appears that his appearance suits the cop image well. Aishwarya looks beautiful and she played
her part well. Karthik didn't get the chance to show his mettle, Priyamani was good, Prabhu was effective, Kishore was
intense, Ranjitha was brief, others didn't have anything to offer or add value.
Music:
'Villain' music is composed by A. R. Rahman. And his music was effortlessly scores though out of all the songs, only two
stands out for their content and singing brilliance. The Background score was a disappointment.
